A&C Black to publish Culture to Catwalk,
new fashion book by Kristin Knox
A
unique perspective on global fashion over the decades, Culture to Catwalk
examines Western fashion’s long-standing love affair with ethnic influence by
looking at both traditional clothing and contemporary fashion from 38
countries. From the founders of ready-to-wear such as Coco Chanel, Yves Saint
Laurent and Christian Dior to the reigning kings of the contemporary catwalk,
there is hardly a designer who cannot claim to have at one point been inspired
by traditional clothing and cultures from around the world. And as fashion
ushers in a new era of digital media with blogs and street style providing new
access and insights into pockets of fashion cultures around the globe, the
influence of these fashion cultures—and sub-cultures— on the catwalk is stronger
than ever.
Featuring
over 300 Getty images, Culture to Catwalk is the ideal guide to global
fashion. Kristin Knox is the professional blogger behind cult fashion
website, “The Clothes Whisperer.” Based in London, she also works as a fashion journalist
and has contributed content to the FT Weekend and InStyle UK,
among others. With a masters in Classical Literature from Oxford University,
this New Yorker turned Londoner also works as a consultant for both major
British and international brands. She is also the author of the best selling, Alexander
McQueen: Genius of a Generation.
