Hydraulic Heels

High heels can be really hard sometimes can't they?

Silvia Fado has challenged the issue of painful footwear by designing shoes equipped with hydraulic rings, pneumatics, hinges, springs and rubber balls that are all designed to work with your body's natural motion rather than against it. Thus, inventing a comfortable pair of heels.

Notting Hill Carnival GIFS

Notting Hill Carnival was just amazing. Luckily I went on the Sunday and avoided the Monday rain. For those who would like to soak up the flavour of the day through the medium of fashion, Vice has created some pretty cool 3D GIFS to give you an idea of Carnival style.

Heat-Sensitive Clothing

Alexander Wang has made his mark on technology by creating a thermo-reactive, or heat sensitive coat that showcases a range of colours when heated up.

Pretty cool, however also pretty expensive at $8,000 a piece.

Fragrance Jeans

Fresh clothes just got a new meaning! These Fragrance Jeans from Portuguese retailer Salsa smell like fruity heaven, even if you wash them regularly. Now that can only be a good thing, especially if you are on long days out or have no room in your clutch for your perfume bottle.

Brandalism

Web Urbanist recently reported about 'Brandalism', a project where 300 hundred bus shelter ad spaces across the UK had been replaced with thought-provoking works criticizing capitalist culture by 40 street artists. The campaign is a response to the fact that the UK's advertising industry pays just under £250 per person a year in the hope of selling to them, through manipulation and consistent reminders that we as citizens "need" lots of material things.

Converse Cons Project

I was lucky enough to be picked out of the applicants to attend the Converse Cons project in Peckham to celebrate London's most inspirational creative talent.

On the 28th June I went along to the Copeland Gallery to check out some interesting graffiti, new styles of Converse sneakers, live screen printing, and some great musical acts such as Fabio and Grooverider, DJ Sticky, and MC Creed. It was an intimate party, which made the night even more enjoyable and there were even a few free drinks thrown in, which of course, is great with me.

I would recommend anyone going to check it out for an interesting evening/night in one of London's most up and coming areas for creativity. There are music, song writing, and photography  events still going on in July so it's still worth applying.

Instagram TV

Since Instagram launched it's video feature, I have seen a lot of interesting and experimental series on the platform from brands making use of the 15 second bite-size content feature.

From BBC news to Delve TV History lessons, and Fish tales cooking, many brands are flocking to the channel to target the ever increasing socially savvy audience to get engaging content in front of them.

The newest to do this is a film maker called Aleks Arcabascio who has created a comedy series called Artistically Challenged that follows the life of Nick, a young struggling artist who tells a small white lie and ends up being feated as the darling of the New York Art Scene. Dazed Digital has reported about the sketch show, and it seems like this may be the future of content distribution for many more entertainment brands to come.

Have you seen any interesting Instagram TV series lately? If so I'd definitely be interested in watching.

Pretty Men

Classic, yet avant garde is the style Yung Wong presents in his SS14 menswear collection according to Lancia Trend Visions. Inspired by architecture and geometry, the pieces in this collection exhibit subtle construction and movement, along with feminine shades of colour - presenting a delicate feel. Although not mainstream, I could see the shirts in this collection being statement pieces as part of a streetwear look.

Rotterdam!

For my 26th Birthday my boyfriend organised for us to go to Rotterdam and stay in the brand new Nhow hotel (as we loved the one in Berlin so much). I had already been to Amsterdam and loved it, so I was really excited to go and see what Rotterdam had to offer in the way of sight-seeing, shopping and night life.

We arrived in the city quite early in the morning, and could see the hotel from a good few miles away in the cab (as it is gigantic). Our room wasn't ready for when we arrived so we went for a mooch over the Erasmus bridge into the city. Luckily for us it was nice and sunny the whole weekend we were there, which made it nicer to walk around and discover new things. We walked straight into the cool district of Rotterdam, where there were hundreds of shops, eateries, bars and open art galleries to see. After stopping off to enjoy a cold drink in the sun, we continued exploring and walked right up to the waterfront where there were more lovely restaurants, and some outstandingly bazaar architecture.

We definitely wanted to check out a few clubs on our stay, and Waterfront was our first destination. The top clubs of Rotterdam all offered a selection of house, tech-house, and trance music so we were spoilt for choice considering we were only there for 2 nights. Waterfront offered an amazing sound system, however Perron and Toffler (the other two big clubs) were obviously more popular. We did visit all three in the end, and Perron was definitely the best. Although I didn't know who any of the DJ's were, the club was packed within 15 minutes of opening. We also liked the fact that the clubs offered lockers instead of a cloak room, which I think is a way better idea then making people queue for ages after queuing to get into a club.

Another place we wondered to was Het park, which was a great place to relax and soak up some of the sun. On the way down there we walked along the river and saw a whole load boats, yachts, and even a pirate ship. We finished off one afternoon sitting outside Saint Tropez, a bar that offered pumping music and a great atmosphere.

With all of the great things to see, we didn't really need a fancy hotel, however the Nhow was out of this world. Although not yet completed, the hotel offered the most amazing views of Erasmus bridge and the city. We stayed in the Sunset room which come with a free mini bar, mirror smart TV, massive bathroom and an extra large bed (it was really a hard room to leave). The bar on the 7th floor had a minimalistic modern feel, and the breakfast (buffet included with the room stay) was delicious and available until noon (no rushing around after a big night of dancing).

All in all I had a great time in Rotterdam. The people are extremely friendly, and it is very easy to get around (by walking, metro, tram or bicycle). I would definitely recommend a weekend visit!

ID's A-Z Of Dance

I'm really loving ID magazine at the moment. After recently posting an article about the publication's
A-Z of pronunciation, I come across another great video - the A-Z of dance.

Partnering up with Diesel, ID have created a great video that showcases a whole bunch of popular dance moves. All of the dancers featured are wearing Diesel Jogg jeans.

NFC Nails

Japanese company Takara Tomy Arts have combined beauty with technology by creating a collection of press-on nails that light up when they are near a NFC-enabled smartphone.

It's a gimmicky idea, however its simplicity highlights a world of opportunity for integrating technology into the everyday products fashion consumers buy.

Boggie's Real Time Digital Airbrushing

Hungarian singer Csemer Bolglarka aka "Boggie" has released a music video that centres around herself being airbrushed, challenging the perception of false standards in beauty. As you watch the video, you can see the work that goes into making the singer look "ideally beautiful", a subject that is currently controversial, as women and men worldwide try to obtain the looks of celebrities, some of which are physically unrealistic.

Couture Trainers

Karl Lagerfeld caused a few shockwaves at paris Couture week when he paired Chanel pieces with sparkly trainers. They are not completely terrible, but I think I will stick to my Nike's.

The Memory Mirror

It's been a while since I have blogged about retail technology, however this memory mirror showcased on Fashion and Mash caught my eye due the convenience it may bring to physical shopping.

Created by MemoMi, the mirror allows users to capture clips of themselves trying on various outfits through an interactive body controlled experience.

3D Printed Nails

You may have seen some of my previous posts about 3D printing and the advances it is making in the world of fashion. Now I have found the next best thing; 3D Printed Manicures.

PSFK recently posted an article about a collaboration by NY based digital artists Sarah C Award and Dhemerae Ford, also known as the Laser Girls, creating 3D printed adhesive nails with patterns that could only be achieved by using 3D printing technology. I think the results are great, and I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes a commercial product, offered as a quick and cool solution for nail art enthusiasts in the future.
